The Bish A-Z of Porn. G is for Gay, Gonzo (not that one) and Group.
Gay
In the category section on porn sites clicking on ‘gay’ usually takes the clicker to a completely separate ‘gay’ version of the website. So for people that want to see lots of guy on guy action (for gay and bisexual guys and for many women too) that’s the place to head. Just FYI, all these A-Z of Porn guides cover the categories in ‘straight’ and ‘gay’ porn sites.
These sites have their own categories too which are very similar to the categories in ‘straight’ porn too (many of which I’ve covered in the A-Z of Porn) but they are also have some which are specific (for example ‘Bear’, not actual bears, that would be dangerous). Many of the scenes follow a similar kind of pattern as well: not a huge amount of foreplay, entry sex is the most important and ejaculation is the exciting conclusion – da, da, daaaaaa (ejaculation over either someone’s partner or themselves is very popular).
For the most part gay porn features condoms (unlike in straight porn) however in recent years there has been a move towards bareback porn (bareback means no condoms). A lot of people think this is really bad and irresponsible because it might be putting the performers at risk of STIs. Also some people think it might be promoting unsafe sex. I don’t know what I personally think about this really – do you think it could promote unsafe sex? Did gay porn ’cause’ more condom use when there was less bareback porn?
One thing missing from a lot of ‘gay’ porn or ‘straight’ porn is bisexual porn. As I explained over here there’s loads of porn featuring women getting it on with men and women but not a lot of guys getting it on with guys and women.
Gonzo
This has nothing to do with Gonzo from the muppets (sadly). This refers to porn where the viewer feels like they are part of the action. Often this involves one of the performers holding the camera and filming the sex from their perspective. So for porn which is aimed at straight guys it would be the guy holding the camera filming the person he is having sex with. If a viewer is excited by the idea of having sex with the person being filmed this might be quite hot, but if they didn’t it wouldn’t be. This is why a lot of women don’t find this kind of porn very exciting.

Group
Group sex is very very popular in porn. This does happen in real life but porn makes it look really exciting and easy to do. The reality of group sex is that it can be difficult to get more two people together who all fancy each other – particularly if one or more of those having sex were straight – having someone in the room that they really don’t fancy can distract them from the people that they do.
Also sorting out what kind of sex you want to have and what they don’t want to have, as well as practising safer sex, can be difficult with just two people – with more than two this can get really complicated. It takes a lot of communication to get this right in real life but porn doesn’t show this bit (obvs). Porn mainly focuses on what goes where and how and in what position and shows everyone having a really great time all the time.
Porn also doesn’t show the ‘feelingz’ either (would people watch it if they did?). Many group sex situations involve people who have different kinds of feelings for each other – this might lead to difficult feelings. Anger, sadness, fear, loss can all happen as a result of jealousy or insecurity. These feelings are often not that hot. For this reason there’s also a lot more ‘checking in’ with each other when people have group sex IRL than in porn. One of those times where porn doesn’t teach you everything you need to know about sex.

” not a lot of guys getting it on with guys and women ”
It may not be top of the pops, but there seems to be more of it. I know of a couple of porn sites that have specific “bisexual” tags that seem to be predominantly two-guys-and-a-girl themed, often with the girl watching the two guys before getting involved. I’ve also noticed a growing trend to introducing pegging to that dynamic too. These things are all to the good as far as I’m concerned!
Thanks for that! Great to hear about any celebration of diversity 🙂
