A – Z of Porn ‘D’

Understanding porn without actually having to watch it. D is for double penetration and dildos.

Double penetration

This is where one of the performers has entry sex (aka ‘penetrative’ or ‘fucking’) with either two penises or sex toys at the same time. Sometimes this may be in the same opening but is usually entry sex in the vagina and the anus

I don’t think there have been any reliable surveys about how many people have tried doing this at home but I guess that it is something which is more popular in porn than it is in real life. Having said that, it’s not something that all porn performers are into either (according to this study 39% of female performers have done it at least once).

The reason why it’s not something that most people do is that it’s probably really difficult to actually do. It would require everyone to be very aroused at the same time and a lot of patience or practice. It would need everyone to talk a lot “are you ready?” “so I’m going here and you’re going here?” “ouch you’re standing on my leg” “where did the lube go?” As you may have guessed they don’t usually show all the preparation and chat during porn. The people doing it have either chatted about this before hand or they are very experienced and have done it lots of times.

Dildos/toys

Just as in the real world, some porn scenes feature the use of sex toys. There are tons of different types of toys for all the different parts of the body they can be used on: the clitoris, lips, vagina, anus, penis or even just all over the body (such as a massage wand).

They are very popular in both porn and the real world and there isn’t a huge difference between how they are used. Perhaps sometimes the toys are bigger, or they are used more dramatically, or they are put on the end of machines. Sometimes they look eye wateringly big and scary, but some people like this in real life too.

People dress up for porn – even if it’s a solo masturbation scene with a sex toy. In the real world someone using a sex toy might still be in their dressing gown or pyjamas with one eye on the door to make sure the cat doesn’t come in.

As with all porn often they don’t really show how they should be used safely in real life. For instance there are some toys which should never be used in the anus. Toys shouldn’t go from the anus to the vagina. Toys shouldn’t be shared as there is a risk of also sharing some STIs (though this is lower than for other kinds of sex). In real life each person could have their own toy (maybe with a handy label?) or a condom can be put on one before sharing with another. Also it’s really important to use lots of lubricant with sex toys.
