Sex Ed doesn’t really work very well if you don’t get to talk about it1. I’m a bit limited in how much of this I can offer at a website (more on that below), but here’s an idea for you to help you have a chat with your loved ones in real life. Your homies, your group chats, your partner(s), parents(lol!), that kind of thing.
In this article I’ll introduce you to one of my teaching resources that I use in person called Talking Sex Ed. I’ve even made videos of me (which I hate doing) to help give you an idea. Keep scrolling!
Teachers, youth workers, parents, this is from my Talking Sex Ed Game. It’s over 100 cards for you to print out onto card to help you get the conversations going. It’s only £10. I use it all the time and nearly everyone seems to really like it. You can get it from my website BISH Training, my Patreon shop, and Cindy Gallop’s new platform for sex education MLNP Academy
Talk For A Minute
The idea of this is that you pick a topic and Talk For A Minute about them. I’m posting the videos of me having a go at this below on YouTube (they’re also over here at Instagram). You could chat about these in person if you are with a mate or a partner. Or you could share the links in the group chat and post your own take on the take. If you like this I’ve also done this years ago in this Talk For A Minute article and this one about Talking About Consent.
Believing In The One
Here’s one introducing the idea with my friend Ser Onlyone McHeropants.
Sex Without Love
A minute of me rambling about this.
Going Out With Someone That Others Don’t Like
Yeah tricky one, but what do you reckon?
Being In Love With The First Person You Go Out With
Adults often say that young people don’t know what ‘being in love’ means: nor do they!
Where Someone is Often Jealous
Yeah I don’t love it and had a lot to say but only had a minute. What do you think?
Why It’s Difficult to Do Online
Young people always say that they want sex and relationships education websites like mine to be interactive and participatory2. At BISH I’m a bit limited about how much of this I can do because it’s just me here and I’m not paid much to do it. You can ask me questions over here and I answer them in the Your Questions section, my advice column basically. There is also sometimes a fun quiz.
However, there isn’t really a much of an opportunity for you to talk to other people, to chat about how you feel about things and to see that actually other people feel the same way you do. You can leave comments on all of the articles (scroll down), but I pre-moderate all of them and I often have to edit them to keep people anonymous. So it’s not like you’re here making friends and learning from each other.
Other places online where you can chat
Even though you want to, you probably already know that unless it’s properly moderated it often doesn’t feel safe to chat online with other people about sex, love and you. There’s often someone looking to be a knobhead, and unless someone is able to find the knobheads, that often prevents people from wanting to get involved. You might find some pretty well moderated Reddit forums. In fact I have a Reddit page, but no-one has used it yet (and that means people are scared to be the first).
If you do want to chat about sex, love and you with other people online, you could try it with websites like The Mix, which is an example of online youth work. There might also be a local youth service near you where there are youth workers helping to make digital youth work happen. Or you could simply head over to the wonderful Scarleteen, who have moderated message boards where you can chat with folks.
What you can do though, is to use a website like mine to help you to talk about sex, love, and you with your loved ones in real life.

What do you think about BISH?
I’ve now closed the survey I’ve been running for the PhD I am working on for Nottingham Trent University. If you would like to leave me some feedback please do so in the comments below (which I may use in my reporting for my funders and in any future research I do on BISH).

Here’s How To Stay Updated With BISH
Most of my readers like to stay updated via email. So sign up here and get an automatic email every time I post a new resource on here.
I’m not using social media much now to be honest. I put all my time into this website and also I think people trust sites like this more than social media. I still post on Instagram and also BlueSky when I’ve done a new thing, so you can follow me there. My YouTube has some of my old videos. You could also follow me on Reddit if you like (just starting out, so tell me which sub-reddits you’d like to see me post in).
Funding and Support
This website is only funded by people like you who find it useful. As you can see, there are no ads, it’s all free. There is no premium service, just expert advice for free if you need it. If you’re an adult and want to be a part of this project please support BISH.
